Hiking is a great way to stay active and enjoy the outdoors. Here are the local trails you should travel this fall.

Enjoy the awe-inspiring fall foliage of Long Island while also getting your 10,000 steps! This area's beautiful parks offer numerous hiking trails, allowing you to immerse yourself in nature while getting some exercise. Whether you like to walk, hike, or jog, there are trails for all skill levels. Don't forget to bring your camera with you, because you're sure to stumble across some beautiful sights. You just might just bump into one of our real estate agents while you're out. Below is a list of some of our favorite trails:

  • Trail View State Park - 8131 Jericho Turnpike, Woodbury, NY 11797
A 400-acre, 7.4-mile linear park runs from Cold Spring Harbor State Park to Bethpage State Park and offers some of the most stunning natural scenery on Long Island. Visit Trail View State Park and make your way through hardwood forests, marshes, and fields while elevation jumps between 60 to 300 feet above sea level. The park is also a popular bird-watching spot and a great place for cross-country skiing in the winter.

  • Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail - Merrick Rd, Massapequa, NY 11758
This one-way hike starts at the east end of Massapequa station just down the road from some of our favorite Nassau County homes for sale. The Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trail follows a narrow corridor of parkland that passes by lakes, ponds, and forest. Parts of this trail are paved, and it's a fairly simple hike. The total length is just under 20 miles.

  • Cold Spring Harbor State Park - 95 Harbor Rd, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724
The Nassau-Suffolk Greenbelt Trailhead is located in Cold Spring Harborwhich is another gorgeous place to hike. You'll find trails that weave in and out of thick hardwood forest and thickets of wild mountain laurel within the 40 acres of hilly terrain; however, the best part about hiking here is the spectacular scenic vistas of the Cold Spring Harbor. These trails are pet-friendly.

  • Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve - 25 Lloyd Harbor Rd, Lloyd Harbor, NY 11743
Located on a peninsula extending into the Long Island Sound, this is one of the most popular places for hiking, jogging, cross-country skiing, and bird watching. You'll be inspired by the scenic views from the nature trails, which run through thick woodlands, peaceful meadows, rocky shorelines, and stunning gardens. Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve is also a popular fishing spot, and pets are not permitted on the trails.

  • Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve - 1600 Merrick Rd, Merrick, NY 11566
We recommend hiking up 155 feet to Norman J. Levy Park & Preserve's highest point and snapping a picture two of the New York City Skyline. The 52-acre park offers unbeatable views and three miles of hiking and jogging trails with exercise stations along the way. This Hempstead community asset isn't just a tranquil place to exercise, but it's also a wonderful plant and wildlife sanctuary.

With awesome parks, beautiful scenery, and plenty of hiking trails, it's easy to see why Long Island is such a great place to live. Contact us today to start your home search.
